Virginia man walks through area raising awareness child illnesses

September 4, 2013

Steve Young of Patrick Springs, Va., walks down Highway 182 near the Regal Inn, where MSU student Bryce Rader brought him on Labor Day to spend the night when he saw Young walking on Highway 82. Bryce Rader was driving west on Highway 82 between Columbus and Starkville at about 3 p.m. on Labor Day when he saw Steve Young walking west along the road.

Young carried an 80-pound backpack loaded with supplies — a sleeping bag, a tent, clothing and more. He used a walking stick, with the initials of each of the states he had visited painted on the stick in blue. But Rader, a business major at Mississippi State University, said one detail caught his eye above all: a sign marked “Hebrews 13:2” strapped to the back of Young’s pack.
