SMITH COLUMN: Webster County football teams beginning well

September 10, 2013

Smith

Webster County has always had a tradition of producing some pretty good high school football.
What's taking place for the East Webster Wolverines and Eupora Eagles so far this season has been nothing short of incredible.
Both programs are undefeated. Eupora has dominated its first three opponents, while East Webster crushed Vardaman and had to come from behind to defeat two very good teams in Noxapater and Nettleton.
The Wolverines and Eagles have talented players up and down the roster. The two that come to mind immediately are the running backs featured on this page in East Webster's Deangelo Liggins and Eupora's Lamontae Salley. They both put up huge numbers in helping their squads to victory last week.
To have an effective offense, there must be a solid quarterback. The Wolverines have one in Jack Wilson and so do the Eagles with Trey Pittman.
East Webster and Eupora have played well on both sides of the football and there are good coaches in charge with Doug Wilson of the Wolverines and Junior Graham of the Eagles.
