Mississippi State and Auburn aren't really considered rivals.
The two teams are in the Southeastern Conference Western Division, and have played 86 times.
Since coach Dan Mullen took over the Bulldog program, the first SEC game for MSU has been Auburn. He sees that as an instant rival.
"The whole time I've been here and even prior to my time, it's been against Auburn every single year," Mullen said on Wednesday's SEC teleconference. "I think that adds a little bit of a rivalry aspect to the game because I think the first game is so critical in how you start your year off in conference play."
