Feeding America designated September as Hunger Action Month, but many local churches have food banks available year round for those in need.

According to a Feeding America report, one in every six people goes hungry in the United States. Food insecurity, where a person does not know where their next meal is coming from, is an issue in every state, but Mississippi ranks statistically higher than the other 49. The United States has a national average of 14.7 percent of households with food insecurity whereas Mississippi has a 19.2 percent average of households with the issue.
