Fourth Fridays offer fun for writers, readers

September 27, 2013

Fourth Fridays attendants enjoy food and fellowship. The night begins at 7:30 at the SCT Theatre and allows writers an opportunity to have their works read aloud and gain feedback from others. (Submitted photo)

The Starkville Community Theatre is hosting its second Fourth Fridays of the season today. Fourth Fridays are held monthly and offer both writers and the audience a chance to offer feedback on writing projects.

The unique event began eight years ago when Amanda Clay Powers wanted to hear a script out loud. Powers was editing one of Kris Lee’s plays and thought seeing it read out loud would benefit the editing process. After getting permission to use the SCT’s stage, Powers got friends together to both read the script and be in the audience. Because of its success, Powers and Lee decided to speak with SCT about making it a recurring event.
