Callahan

Most people travel to the Mississippi Gulf Coast for sun, seafood and relaxation.
For Starkville resident Marie Callahan, the trip to Biloxi on Sept. 13-15, was for a much different reason.
Callahan, along with over 30 other competitors, convened on the coastal city to take part in the 2013 Mississippi Skeet Championships, which were held at the Gulf Coast Rifle and Pistol Club.
What started out as a normal day of competition ended with history being made as Callahan became the first female to win an Open Mississippi Championship.
There were 39 shooters were entered in the 20-gauge event and after breaking a perfect 100-out-of-100 clay targets, Callahan found herself tied for the lead with Mike Boyd of Clinton who also hit a perfect 100 targets.
