SMITH COLUMN: Area squads are emerging in landscape

October 1, 2013

Smith

The really good teams are emerging from the pack across the high school football landscape in the area at the midway point of the season.
It's really kind of difficult to realize some teams are five games into its seasons and East Webster has played six games. The Wolverines have won all six.
In fact, both Webster County teams remain undefeated as Eupora stands 5-0 after losing one game to the weather.
The Wolverines and Eagles haven't begun play in Class 2A, Region 4 yet. East Webster makes the trip to Okolona to start region play in our top matchup of the week pick, while Eupora has an open date before its first region game at home against tough Bruce.
It will be interesting to see how much longer both squads can continue its unbeaten streak. The Wolverines and Eagles play each other in the final game of the regular season and there could be much on the line at that point.
