Homecoming is surrounding by parades, specific activities and crowning of a queen.
Although those things are important and make homecomings what they are, they are centered around a football game – a football game that's necessary to win.
Starkville High School head coach Jamie Mitchell has done a good job over his tenure of keeping the focus of his team where it should be and that's the action on the field.
"I think our guys enjoy the pageantry of it, but I think they understand that at 7 p.m. is what's going to matter for us and not what happens before or at halfime," Mitchell said. "I think we've put ourselves in a great position to maybe get on a run again."
