Former MSU baseball player found dead at home

October 3, 2013

Van Cleve

The Mississippi State baseball family lost one of its former players during the night Wednesday when Dan Van Cleve was found dead in his Jackson home.
No cause of death was immediately known.
Van Cleve was the starting center fielder for the 1985 Bulldogs, a team that finished tied for third at the College World Series. He played for coach Ron Polk.
"Dan has been close to me since he left in 1985," Polk said. "He was with us five years and he stayed in contact with me all the time. This was a fine college baseball player, a very confident baseball player and has been very successful in life as a medical doctor."
