GREENVILLE – The Starkville Yellowjackets stretched their winning streak to four games Friday night by taking a 39-6 road decision over the Greenville-Weston Hornets.
With the victory, Starkville improved to 5-2 overall and remained undefeated in Class 6A, Region 2 at 3-0.
The Yellowjackets struck first with 6:04 remaining in the first quarter on a 1-yard run by quarterback Princeton Jones.
Starkville scored again with 2:17 left in the first quarter when on hiss first carry of the game, Jacquez Horsley had a 10-yard touchdown run.
Horsley was limited in practice this week after injuring his ankle on the first offensive play against Northwest Rankin last week and missed most of the remainder of the game. He ran early in the week, but didn't practice until Thursday.
Not long after Horsley's score, Tyler Rogers picked off a pass for the Jackets and returned it 20 yards for another touchdown. Jones tossed a two-point conversion pass to Brandon Sparks and SHS increased its lead to 22-0 at the 2-minute mark of the first quarter.
