The Starkville Yellowjackets have had a history of playing in big football games with much on the line.
Under coach Jamie Mitchell the last two years, the Jackets have made playoff runs that led all of the way to the Class 5A State championship game. They won the title last season.
It may not be a postseason situation tonight, but Starkville is involved in another key matchup when it hosts the Madison Central Jaguars. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Yellowjacket Stadium.
"We're an excited group of coaches and excited group of players," Mitchell said. "We know what's on the line. For Starkville and our football team, the experience of being in big games really helps. This is not a playoff game, but we've been in big games, state championship games and playoffs games. For our kids, it's a nice thing to have in our pockets. The experience of knowing how to get ready and knowing what's going to happen is a good thing."
Both SHS and Madison Central enter the clash with 5-2 overall records and stand at the top of Class 6A, Region 2 with 3-0 marks.
