Salley helps Eupora to 34-12 victory
EUPORA â€“ Lamontae Salley scored three touchdowns for Eupora, two receiving and one rushing in the fourth quarter, and the Eagles went on to a 34-12 homecoming victory over Okolona Friday night.
"We played much better," Eupora head coach Junior Graham said. "We blocked and tackled much better than we did last week. We rebounded well from a loss to Bruce."
With the victory, the Eagles improved its records to 6-1 overall and 1-1 in Class 2A, Region 4.
Salley caught an 18-yard pass from quarterback Trey Pittman with 8:35 left in the first quarter as Eupora took a 7-0 lead, then had a 45-yard reception for a score from Jalan Embry as it held a 13-6 advantage with 1 minute left in the opening half.
In the second half, Javoris Draine had a pair of touchdowns runs, one of 12 yards with 4:14 remaining in the third quarter and the other of 7 yards at the 11:23 mark of the fourth as the Eagles took a 27-12 lead.
Salley scored his rushing touchdown, a 12-yarder, with 7:06 left in the game as Eupora increased the margin to 34-12.

One week after defeating county rival West Oktibbeha, East Oktibbeha saw its records fall to 1-5 overall and in Class A, Region 3.

"All week we talked about how scrappy of a team they were," Eagles coach David Foster said. "We knew they were going to play hard." Â
The Eagles started things off with a 95-yard kickoff return from Justin Gordon to take the early lead. Hebron Christian went on to take a 36-0 advantage into halftime.
"We talked about getting a fast start and you can't get much faster then that," Foster said. "At the half, we discussed not letting let the scoreboard determine how you play."Â
The Eagles took that message to heart as they posted 14 additional points in the second half to get the win and advance to 5-3 overall and 3-0 in their division.
Channing Tapley ended his night going was 4-for-6 for 107 yards and three touchdowns.
The Eagles will close the regular season with a trip to Calhoun AcademyÂ on Nov. 1.
