Championships are often won before teams ever reach a competitive situation against another school.
For members of the Starkville High School bowling team, practices are taken very seriously.
The boys won the region championship last season and have several bowlers returning from that team.
As practice started for the Yellowjackets on Thursday at Bulldog Lanes, veteran Cody Prewitt said steps are being taken to be the best they can be on the lanes.
"When we practice, we like to take it seriously," Prewitt said. "We don't want to be practicing and doing foolish stuff. We want to practice as if we are playing."
