JACKSON – Since entering division play, the Starkville Yellowjackets have had a good run.
They added to that run Friday night.
The Jackets knocked off Class 6A, Region 2 opponent Murrah 48-28 at Newell Field for their sixth-straight win.
Starkville (7-2, 5-0) opened the season with a 17-0 victory over Noxubee County, then lost its next two games to Oxford and West Point.Â
Since the 55-33 loss to the Green Wave, the Jackets haven't scored less than 34 points and have won their first five division games. The non-conference win came over Southaven at home.Â
After a bad snap on a punt went over Michael Godley's head for a safety, the Mustangs took a 16-14 lead with 4:17 left in the first half.
That was the last time Murrah led.
Starkville sophomore Kobe Jones recovered a fumble on the ensuing Murrah drive and the Jackets took over at the Mustang 31-yard line.
"It was a big affect on the game," Jones said. "It turned the game around and gave us momentum."Â
Senior quarterback Princeton Jones kept that momentum going as he found AJ Brown for a 32-yard passing touchdown.Â
"Like I said last week, we did it five times," Jones said. "Until you stop it, we are going to continue doing it. I'm going to continue to throw the ball up to (Brown), and he's going to jump up and make a play on it."
