SMITH COLUMN: East Webster can continue run in softball

October 26, 2013

The East Webster Lady Wolverines can get used to visiting Ridgeland's Freedom Ridge Park in the spring and fall.
When it comes to establishing a tradition in the sport of softball, East Webster has it covered.
The Lady Wolverines may have been swept by the Baldwyn Lady Bearcats in two games Saturday at the Class 2A State slow pitch championship series, but it may only be the beginning of several opportunities for them to get the job done.
East Webster did an amazing job of getting to the finals this year without a single senior on the roster. The future looks bright for the Lady Wolverines.
With five juniors, East Webster can use the experience gained to make another run at the fast pitch title, which they won last spring, and have another strong showing in slow pitch a year from now.
Juniors Mamie Hollenhead, Kandler Flora, Kendall Wilkinson, Autumn Frost and Geneva White already play important roles for the Lady Wolverines. As those young ladies look ahead to continuing their junior years with fast pitch and to their senior seasons in 2014-15, good things can only be ahead for East Webster.
