Mrs. Mississippi tells story to U.S.

October 28, 2013

Ever since she was 5 years old, Sagen Gunnoe knew she wanted to be a veterinarian.

But, her dreams of becoming a vet were derailed at 13 when doctors told her she would never walk again after having surgery for scoliosis, an abnormal curving of the spine.

Gunnoe considered herself defeated for only a moment before determining to defy the odds and live out her dreams. She is now a third-year vet student at Mississippi State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine.
