Ross progresses with Jackets in cross country

October 28, 2013

Alex Ross may not be the most talkative member of the Starkville High cross country team, but that does not stop him from being one of its biggest leaders.
“He is a good leader,” Yellowjackets coach Caroline Woomer said. “He does it quietly. He doesn’t ask for the position, but he does it well.”
Over the years, Ross has worked his way into the leadership role on the Jackets team. He has gradually progressed, but it was last season that Woomer first began to notice his marked improvement.
“I wish I could go back and look at his times, but last year he had a big competition with Stuart (Woomer) and he wanted to get up there with Damian (Grady),” coach Woomer said. “So last year was the first time I noticed he cut his time by minutes. This year he didn’t waste time. From day one, he knew he could do it and he went for it.”
