MABEN – After Eupora's lead had been cut to 21-18, head coach Junior Graham decided to change things up on the kickoff.
Instead of running the kickoff up the sideline, he decided to run a wedge in the middle.
Chance Cooper took the kickoff 95 yards to start a 14-0 run, as the Eagles went on to beat rival East Webster 35-18 to earn a playoff berth.Â
"That was a big, big, big, big, big return," Graham said. "We had been sideline returning and we went to a middle wedge (block) on that play. We got some good blocks."
Cooper went untouched up the middle and followed his blockers as he rushed into the end zone to shift the momentum back to the Eupora sideline.
"I really knew when Lamontae Salley got that block," Cooper said. "Once I saw that hole, I knew I could score. The only thing left to do was beat that last man.
"To go out there and take one back, answer was the only thing we could do."
With the win, the Eagles (7-2, 2-2) earned the No. 2 seed out of Class 2A, Region 4 and will play host to South Delta in the first round of the playoffs next Friday night.
