Starkville High School has a history of producing a long line of talented senior classes on the football field.
One of the best groups will take the field for the last time in the regular season tonight when 20 senior Yellowjackets will be recognized for their contributions to the program.
This year's SHS seniors have compiled a 31-9 record over the last three seasons with two-straight Class 5A State championship appearances and they captured the title last year.
The Jacket seniors get a chance to make one more playoff run, this time in Class 6A, before their careers come to a close.
"It's a senior class that's really had a special ride," SHS football coach Jamie Mitchell said.
In the final Class 6A, Region 2 matchup of the season, the Jackets host the Clinton Arrows. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
Starkville (7-3 overall, 5-1 region) had an opportunity to clinch the region crown last week, but lost a 12-9 decision at Warren Central. The Jackets can still get it done tonight with a win and a Columbus victory against Warren Central.
