SCOOBA – East Mississippi Community College fans are used to its teams playing for championships and winning them.
The 6,000 fans on hand at Sullivan-Windham Field, mostly Lion fans, saw another dominant showing from EMCC on Saturday.Â
The No. 2 Lions rolled over the No. 4 Jones County Junior College Bobcats 61-24 in route to winning the MACJC State championship.
It is the third state championship for the Lions in the past five years. They won the whole thing in coach Buddy Stephens' second year in 2009 and won it again in 2011.
"When we were at Pearl River, we won four in a row," Stephens said. "(EMCC) is doing it on odd number years. Now I need consistency, where we're trying to compete for them every year instead of odd number years."
The Lions won the national championship in 2011 and will once again compete for that title come December.
EMCC (11-0) will more than likely play the No. 1 Georgia Military Bulldogs in the Mississippi Bowl VI in Biloxi on Sunday, Dec. 8, for the national championship.Â
