Rick Ray is facing another obstacle in his young head-coaching career.
The Mississippi State head men's basketball coach saw his starting point guard helped off the court last Thursday night and learned on Friday that he will be sidelined for two to four weeks.
IJ Ready will sit out with a strained, inflamed hamstring, leaving a void at the point guard position.
"Obviously, it's unfortunate that IJ is out," Ray said on his Monday teleconference. "The good thing is the fact that it was just a strain and wasn't a tear. You always have to be careful with hamstrings. He could be out from anywhere between two to four weeks. We'll make sure we'll err on the side of caution with that."
Ray has a short time to get another point guard prepared as the Bulldogs (2-0) play host to in-state foe Mississippi Valley State (0-2) tonight. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. inside Humphrey Coliseum.
