Board kills phone ban

November 20, 2013

An issue that has caused an uproar among citizens since Friday fell softly to the sound of silence during Tuesday’s Starkville Board of Aldermen meeting.

The board, by a 4-3 vote, defeated Ward 6 Alderman Roy A. Perkins’ proposed resolution to ban citizens bringing cell phones into Board of Aldermen meetings. Aldermen Ben Carver, David Little, Jason Walker and Scott Maynard — of Wards 1,3,4 and 5 respectively — opposed the measure, while Ward 2 Alderman Lisa Wynn and Ward 7 Alderman Henry Vaughn voted with Perkins in favor.
