Two Mississippi high school football programs that know and understand about state championships meet tonight for the right to advance to the Class 6A North State championship.
The defending Class 5A State champion Starkville Yellowjackets travel to meet the defending Class 6A title holder South Panola Tigers in Batesville, Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
South Panola (12-1) has collected 10 state crowns in a short period of time, but Starkville head coach Jamie Mitchell is quick to point out the tradition established at his school.
Even though the Jackets have won half as many state championships with five, they have appeared in four other state title games, had 11 undefeated seasons, 13 one-loss seasons and have only had six losing seasons since 1924.
