Dan Mullen had to deal with a very difficult situation in his second season as the head coach of the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
In 2010, one of Mullen's players Nick Bell had died after a short battle with cancer and it was a very emotional time for the Bulldogs and their coach.
There were many people who reached out to Mullen and MSU to show signs of support and comfort.
One gesture in particular made an impression on Mullen and that was a letter received from former Wisconsin and current Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema.
Bielema was coaching the Badgers at the time of Bell's death, and the fact that a coach outside of the Southeastern Conference would take the time to express his thoughts in such a manner caught Mullen a little bit by surprise.
"You got a lot of calls from different people and I know you have things that go on," Mullen said. "You get a call from Nick (Saban), Les Miles or someone. They are in the conference, (and) you see them all of the time, so they put in a call and wish you the best in a tough situation, but to take time to write a full letter out, I thought it was a really neat deal."
