Jackets ready to host Thanksgiving Classic

November 30, 2013

The Starkville High School Yellowjackets are not waiting until December to have some holiday basketball tournament fun.
Starkville is hosting a Thanksgiving Tournament today for the first time.
After getting out of town to attend other events in the past, the Jackets remain in the Beehive for their own Starkville Classic.
"We've been traveling to other Thanksgiving classics," SHS boys coach Greg Carter said. "I just wanted to start one here and we can have our own little weekend Thanksgiving Classic here in Starkville."
Neshoba Central and Calhoun City tip off the tournament at 3 p.m., followed by New Hope and Shannon at 4:30 p.m., West Point and Aberdeen play at 6 p.m. and Starkville faces Brandon to close the one day event at 7:30 p.m.
Carter was pleased with the response received locally and around the state while putting together the boys schedule.
"We have a really good field," Carter said. "I started making a few calls in the spring about it and people were interested."
