Volunteers open soccer season at Magnolia Heights

December 2, 2013

“Physical” and “quick” are just two of the words Starkville Academy coach Cole Andrews choses to describe his current soccer team.
“We have been working really hard to get fit and work on our team principle,” Andrews said. We are going to be pretty strong. We did lose a good bit of seniors, but we are returning this year with a ton of experience. We are going to be physical. We are going to be quick and we are looking to put some goals in this year so I am very excited.”
The Volunteers travel to Senatobia today to kick off the 2013-14 campaign with a 4 p.m. game against Magnolia Heights.
As SA prepares to start the current season, there is a little extra motivation for the current Volunteer squad.
"We were knocked out in the semifinals by Jackson Academy last year," Andrews said. "It certainly leaves a bitter taste in your mouth when you get that far and it is over that quick. The returning players remember it very well and they are eager to prove that wasn't their best game. We definitely can get right back there if not further this year."
