District gov. visits Rotary

December 3, 2013

To Rob Smith’s mind, there’s a difference between being a member of a Rotary Club and being a Rotarian.

Smith is governor for Rotary District 6820, a set of 44 clubs that covers much of central Mississippi, including Starkville. If joining Rotary Club is like joining a church, Smith said, becoming a Rotarian is like experiencing religious conversion. He told a story about laying sod with fellow club members for a playground at a shelter for abused women in Rankin County. He said he still remembered seeing the gratitude on the faces of children staying there.
