Lady Jackets find easy win in Columbus

December 7, 2013

COLUMBUS – There was nothing going to stand in front of the Starkville Lady Yellowjackets way, not the Columbus Lady Falcons or the rain.
The Lady Jackets battled a 45-minute delay for a leak in the roof and went on to a 62-38 victory over the Lady Falcons in a Class 6A, Region 3, District 4 matchup Friday night.
"I thought that we would've come out kind of flat," SHS head coach Kristie Williams said. "We hadn't played since the weekend before Thanksgiving. I thought we would've come out a little down and out, but I think the idea of knowing that this is our first district game and it is Columbus, the intensity was already fired up inside of us. They just came out wanting it."
The Columbus High School gym had a leak in the roof. There was some talk of moving the game to another location, but the officials at Columbus waited until the rain ceased and tipped it off at 6:45 p.m.
