Area basketball teams are getting a little extra playing time thanks to the Choctaw County Tournament.
"It means an opportunity to get more games under your feet," Chargers coach Gary Beals said. "We played four games last week so we have been playing steadily, but this gives the opportunity to play folks that you normally don't get to play."
Action tipped off Wednesday evening and will run through Friday with each team being guaranteed at least two games.
Along with Choctaw County, this year's lineup includes Caledonia, Ethel, Nanih Waiya, East Webster and French Camp.
The chance to play extra games is extremely appealing to the Lady Chargers. This year's squad is heavy laden with youth so the more court time the better. In fact, the two leading scorers are freshmen and just this week, Beals did some switching of lineups.
"I brought in an 8th grader (Tuesday) night and she scored 11 for us," Beals said. "She was playing junior varsity on Monday then stepped right up to varsity on Tuesday."
