Ready making impact for MSU as freshman

December 11, 2013

IJ Ready has already made an impact with the Mississippi State Bulldogs this season.
The true freshman point guard's presence has been felt on the court early this season. Although he has played in just three games this season, the fans, the coaching staff and players are talking about him.
Ready is averaging 7.7 points per game and plays a point guard position, the Bulldogs have had a problem with last season with no true point guards on the team.
He was sidelined for four games with an inflamed, strained hamstring. He came back last Thursday in MSU's home game against TCU. He knocked down the only three 3-pointers for the Bulldogs against the Horned Frogs.
MSU head coach Rick Ray is happy with how Ready has progressed since the injury, he just wants the young man to be honest with him.
“IJ’s such a tough kid that he may say some things are not hurting him so he can continue to play and not sit out,” Ray said on his teleconference Wednesday. “I just want to make sure. I’ll sit down and have multiple conversations with IJ about being honest about how the hamstring feels, because the last thing we want to do is prolong the injury.”

Lineup change
possibly to come

The Bulldogs have had trouble getting out of the gate in the most recent games.
They scored just 22 points in the first half against TCU. MSU tried to make a second half comeback, but it fell short resulting in the second loss of the season.
Ray's squad has also been slow coming out of the locker room at halftime as well.
The Bulldogs play in Tupelo on Friday against Southeastern Louisiana and Ray said changes might come to the lineup.
“Whether it be at the beginning of the game or at the end of the game, I think we’ve got to make sure we’re looking at what gives us the best position to have success on the court,” Ray said. “So I’m looking at changing some things in the starting lineup as well as how we end the game, (and) how we start the second half.”
Ray didn't give specifics about the changes, but Ready could be thrust back into the starting lineup after not starting against TCU.
Junior forward Roquez Johnson has also played well as of late. He scored nine points against the Horned Frogs and earned his first double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds against Loyola a little less than two weeks ago.

Autograph session
to be held in Tupelo

The Bulldogs will travel to Tupelo Thursday afternoon.
MSU will host an autograph session at 6 p.m. Thursday night in the BancorpSouth Arena.
Fans can meet and take pictures with the Bulldogs in the west concourse.
