Mississippi State senior quarterback Tyler Russell will miss the AutoZone Liberty Bowl.
Russell had surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder earlier this week, a MSU spokesperson said. The procedure was done by Dr. James Andrews and ends the Meridian native's Bulldog career.
He suffered the injury in the fourth quarter against Arkansas and did not play against in-state rival Ole Miss in the Egg Bowl. Shown on the jumbotron during the Ole Miss game for senior night, his right arm was completely limp and he didn't move it.
After a record-setting season last year, Russell was injured in the first game of the season this year, and he never rebounded.
Russell will leave Starkville as one of the best quarterbacks to wear the maroon and white. He holds 11 single season passing records. He also has the most passing touchdowns in school history, is third all time in passing yards and completions and sixth in attempts.
