Brandon Presley wants to see Mississippi vie for major cellular phone service infrastructure money a few dollars at a time.
The Public Service Commissioner for the Northern District of Mississippi, Presley said every cell phone bill has a fee amounting to a dollar or two that goes into the Universal Service Fund (USF), created by the FCC to improve and broaden availability of communication services. Mississippi puts about $60 million into the USF each year, he said, but last month, the state received $200 million from it, primarily to improve cellular and high speed Internet service to rural areas.
