Over the years, the Joe Horne Christmas Classic in Columbus has blossomed into one of the top tournaments in the area.
That growth is much in part to the work of Columbus High coach Sammy Smith and his staff who started working many months ago to get this year’s tournament ready.
“As usual, it is something that everyone looks forward to,” Smith said. “It is a lot of hard work and you have to start planning it the year before, but it has gotten easier over the years. We have people on a waiting list to get in because teams are telling other teams they need to get in this tournament. It is also easier to make phone calls for support because the community is looking for the call and they want to help out.”
One of the biggest draws for the Classic is that not only does it feature area teams, but sprinkled amongst those competitors are some of the top teams from the surrounding states.
