One day after winning the AutoZone Liberty Bowl, it’s still fresh on the minds of Mississippi State fans.
The Bulldogs beat Conference USA champion Rice 44-7 at Liberty Bowl Stadium in Memphis, Tenn. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs finished the 2013 season with a 7-6 record, their fourth-straight winning season.
MSU gave its fans a good reason to ring in the New Year, but the celebration won’t last long for head coach Dan Mullen and his coaching staff.
“We’re going to enjoy this win (Tuesday), enjoy it (Wednesday) and then start looking to 2014 as a staff,” Mullen said in his postgame comments after the bowl victory.
Mullen and his staff had Wednesday off, but will be back in the office today preparing for the 2014 season, which starts in about eight months.
The players will have a little longer layoff.
“(Tuesday) we laid to rest the 2013 team and each team has a one year shelf life,” Mullen said. “The 2014 team is born on Jan. 10 when we report for our first team meeting.”
