Derek Jeter, Candace Parker, Mark Sanchez and Abby Wambach is quite a list of athletes.
Other than being professional athletes, that quartet has a bit more in common.
While in high school, each one had the privilege of being chosen a Gatorade Player of the Year state award winner in their respective sport.
For 29 years, the Gatorade Company, in collaboration with USA Today High School Sports, has been awarding the Player of the Year award to the nation’s best high school athletes. This year the Mississippi Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year is none other than Starkville High School’s own Kate Mattox.
