The Starkville Lady Yellowjackets made a statement early in their game with the Madison Central Lady Jaguars Friday night that they had come to play defense.
Starkville did not allow Madison Central to score a field goal in the first quarter.
In the process, the Lady Jackets built a lead that the visiting Lady Jaguars could not come back from and won a 60-33 Class 6A, Region 3 decision at the Beehive.
Starkville girls coach Kristie Williams said defense has been a point of emphasis in practice ever since the victory over Columbus.
