A halftime deficit against the No. 1 team in the state didn't faze the Starkville Yellowjackets Friday night.
Despite trailing 38-33 to the Madison Central Jaguars, Starkville found a way to overcome and secure a 70-62 win on its home court.
The Jackets took a 49-46 lead at the end of the third quarter, then outscored the Jaguars 21-16 in the fourth.
"We just fought and fought hard," SHS boys coach Greg Carter said. "In the first half, there were opportunities we had that we didn't make that we had been making all year. It was different on the court than it had been all year. Maybe we let the hype of the game throw off our concentration.
