Lady Jackets win easily at home

January 31, 2014

Thursday was all about defense for the Starkville Lady Yellowjackets.
In convincing fashion, Starkville defeated Aberdeen 53-15.
“Once we got started, we were able to keep up our intensity on the defensive side,” Lady Jackets coach Kristie Williams said. “That is what we have been enforcing in practice because we are at the last stretch of our regular season.”
The starting five for Starkville came out of the gate ready to play with Kelsey Jones leading the charge with 12 points while Imane Montgomery and Taylor Price added six and four points respectively.
For as impressive as the team was on offense, defensively it held the Lady Bulldogs to just two points making it a 20-point game after just the first period.
The precedent set by the starters and the early lead provided the Lady Jackets the chance to get some much needed playing time for the younger members of their rosters.
