West Oktibbeha teams lose to West Lowndes

February 2, 2014

MABEN – West Oktibbeha is part of an extremely tough district.
On Saturday evening, the Lady Timberwolves tipped off with one of those opponents in West Lowndes where they lost 44-40.
West Lowndes took control from the very beginning outscoring West Oktibbeha 6-3 in the first period.
With Shannon Tate leading the way with four points, the Lady Timberwolves scored six points, but it was not enough as West Lowndes posted 10 points to lead 16-9.
Offensively, action could not have been tighter in the third period. Both teams put up 13 points making it a seven-point ballgame at 29-22.
Turnovers were the story in the final period. Try as they may to make up ground, West Oktibbeha saw the game slip out of its hands on a late loss of possession.
“We were up by one point with 30 seconds remaining and had a turnover,” West Oktibbeha coach Danny Crawford said. “You can’t win if you do not win the turnover margin and we had too many turnovers down the stretch.”
With 19 points, Alexis Neely was the leading scorer for the Lady Timberwolves while Tate was just behind her with 15.
West Oktibbeha will welcome Okolona to town on Feb. 7.

MABEN – Despite 35 points and 12 rebounds from Kadarius Yeates, the Timberwolves were unsuccessful in their effort against West Lowndes.
“We just played undisciplined and we ran out of gas,” Crawford said. “We just weren’t playing smart. We dug ourselves a hole and couldn’t get out.”
