Sturgis schedules rally - Aldermen vote not to enforce ethics ruling against mayor

February 6, 2014

Turner

The Sturgis Board of Aldermen unanimously signed a contract with the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally Board for a rally in August and voted not to enforce a Mississippi Ethics Commission (MEC) ruling against Sturgis Mayor Walter Turner at its meeting Tuesday at Sturgis City Hall.

In late January, the rally board met with the aldermen to discuss the contract and soon after announced plans for a rally Aug. 15-17 at Dianne Jackson Memorial Park. The once annual rally had been on hiatus since 2010. Aldermen had rejected several contracts due to concerns that they offered insufficient funds to the city for in-kind services like security, sanitation and trash pickup.
