Soccer is taking over the Starkville Sportsplex this weekend.
Beginning this morning and running through late Sunday afternoon, the Starkville Soccer Association will host the Spring Shootout.
“It hasn’t really felt like spring this week,” Sean Owen, president of the SSA and tournament director, said. “A lot of the naming has to do with it has traditionally been held in March or April. This year due to other tournaments, we moved it into February.”
Even with the movement in dates, registration for the tournament has remained strong. When the tournament kicks off, about 50 teams will converge on the Sportsplex from places like Meridian, Florence, Oxford and Greenwood. Also in attendance will be a few teams from neighboring towns like Columbus and West Point.
One of the reasons Owen says people keep coming back for the SSA tournaments is the top-notch facilities present at the Sportsplex.
