It's not an easy task to ask a team to beat another three times during a season.
The occasion of a trio of meetings doesn't happen often, but when division opponents play twice during a season and then in the postseason tournament, those situations are destined to happen.
That will be the case tonight when the Starkville Lady Yellowjackets open the Class 6A, Region 3 Tournament at Madison Central against the Columbus Lady Falcons.
Starkville girls coach Kristie Williams expects the 4 p.m. game against rival Columbus to be "a battle."
"It's a rivalry game in itself, but the stakes are even higher because we know if we don't do our part and win, the season is basically over. We know we have to go out with a strong mental toughness as well as be ready physically."
