Local arts council president speaks to Rotary on Monday

February 18, 2014

To communicate the importance of art, Starkville Area Arts Council (SAAC) President Ellen Boles asked the Starkville Rotary Club to imagine a world without it.

“Theaters from Broadway to hometowns would be non-existent,” Boles said. “Imagine a world without ever having seen the Mona Lisa’s smile. Would people flock to the Sistine Chapel to look at a bare ceiling? Art touches lives and makes us feel emotions. It can teach, uplift, enlighten and console. It sparks imaginations. Art can make one think, ponder (and) wonder.”
