Baseball jamboree gets Jackets started

February 20, 2014

Garner

Anyone who has driven by the Starkville High School baseball complex during the afternoon hours over the last several weeks has noticed several cars parked along the hill.
The Yellowjackets can usually be found either inside the indoor facility or out on the field during that time preparing for the 2014 season.
Travis Garner begins his first season as coach at SHS and hasn't wasted a moment in getting a feel for what his team can do.
"We are a lot further along with our defense," Garner said. "I am an offensive-minded person so I'm trying to put some things in place there during our workouts."
The Jackets will host a jamboree on Saturday in hopes to learn even more about where they stand.
Starkville and East Webster begin the action against each other at 11 a.m., then East Webster plays Kosciusko at 1 p.m. and Starkville takes on Kosciusko to close the event at 3 p.m.
"I'm anxious to see where we are and we are going to use the jamboree to put us in some game-type situations against other teams," Garner said. "We're excited to get started and see where we are."
