Holy Cross spoils State's attempt at sweep of DH

February 23, 2014

It was a good start for the Mississippi State Bulldogs on the baseball field on Saturday.
When a doubleheader is involved, there has to be two victories in the bag for it to be considered a successful day.
That wasn't the case for MSU.
After winning an 8-4 decision in the first game of the twinbill against the Holy Cross Crusaders, the No. 2 Bulldogs lost the second game 7-6 in front of an announced crowd of 7,646 at Dudy Noble Field on Saturday.
The first game win must have seemed a week ago for MSU head coach John Cohen, who only wanted to talk about the shortcomings of his club following the disappointing defeat.
In the two games combined, State made five errors.
"We're not where we want to be at this time of the year," Cohen said. "We are not where we want to be. We have a good club, but we can't keep putting ourselves in a hole."
The Bulldogs saw their record fall to 4-3 overall, while the Crusaders won their first game of the season in three games.
