SA baseball wins first game

March 1, 2014

The Starkville Academy Volunteers won their first game of the season with a 7-2 victory in front of the home crowd over Bayou Academy.
The Colts ran out to a early lead with a run in the top half of the first inning. The Vols didn't waste anytime getting the bats going with six runs of their own in the bottom of the first. Coming across the plate for runs were Colt Crestman, John McReynolds, Harper Arnold, Billy McGee, Josh Holtcamp and Drake Gordman.
SA added another run with Houston Clark scoring in the bottom of the fourth to make it a 7-1 game. Bayou Academy did score a run in the top of the seventh to end all scoring.
Caleb Griffin pitched seven innings going the distance as he allowed seven hits, two runs (one earned), three walks and three strikeouts for the win in his first varsity start.
