Jackets win in Garner's debut

March 1, 2014

Starkville High School baseball coach Travis Garner had watched the development of junior pitcher Colbey Rivers during the offseason.
Garner rewarded Rivers' progress by giving him an opening day start.
"I've been waiting to pitch the first game for a while," Rivers said.
Rivers didn't disappoint as he went the distance in a six-inning game, worked a three-hitter with seven strikeouts and no walks as the Yellowjackets defeated the Greenville Weston Hornets 11-1 for Garner's first victory as the SHS head coach.
