Daniel Garner started getting himself mentally and physically prepared to enter the ballgame in the sixth inning.
The moved paid off.
The Mississippi State redshirt freshman had a pinch hit RBI single in the eighth inning that proved to be the game winner as the 18th-ranked Bulldogs beat Michigan State 4-2 Friday night in The Diamond Classic presented by Polk's Meat Products.
"It's pretty tough, but you just have to be really mentally focused," Garner said of coming off the bench in cold weather. "(You must) really prepare yourself not only physically to get loose, but mentally too."
Garner pinch hit for Jacob Robson with runners on first and second with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning with the game tied 2-2.
