It doesn't take long for a record to receive a big boost when there are several opportunities to get victories.
The Mississippi State Bulldogs took advantage of one of those situations over the weekend with the Diamond Classic presented by Polk's Meat Products.
MSU played four games in three days and won all of those, including Sunday's 9-0 decision over Eastern Illinois at Dudy Noble Field.
It was the first shutout of the season for the 18th-ranked Bulldogs, who improved their record to 10-4.
"We're really proud of our kids," MSU baseball coach John Cohen said. "I thought it was a nice team win (on Sunday)."
State reached the 10-win mark on Feb. 26 last season on the way to a 17-game winning streak to begin the year.
The Bulldogs went 6-0 for the week after sweeping Mount St. Mary's last Tuesday and Wednesday.
During the weekend, MSU defeated Michigan State twice 4-2 and 7-1 and Eastern Illinois twice 4-3 and 9-0.
The Bulldogs now have a combined 9-1 record against Michigan State and Eastern Illinois.
