Opener goes SHS way with pair of big innings

March 12, 2014

Starkville High School baseball coach Travis Garner likes offense.
Garner really enjoyed the final two innings from his team in the first game of a doubleheader against Horn Lake Wednesday afternoon.
The Yellowjackets scored nine runs in two innings, with six runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh, to defeat the Eagles 10-9.
"When the wind is blowing straight out 25 miles per hour, it makes this park play small," Garner said. "It seemed like anything you get in the air was running out of the yard.
"We played about as poorly as you could play for about the first five innings, but we got to swinging and it got contagious. Before you knew it, we went from one to 10 pretty quick, so proud of the effort at the end of the game."
